Environmental protection
Stroytransgaz strives to be a leader in introducing modern, effective environmental protection measures. Our work conforms to the demands of Russian and international environmental protection legislation, ensuring environmental and industrial safety at all stages of activity.
In 2004 Stroytransgaz was the first in the industry in Russia to implement an environmental management system. The system is certified to meet the requirements of international standard ISO 14001:2004. Experts acknowledge it as one of the best among Russian and foreign companies devoting attention to issues of environmental safety. The company’s normative documents include an environmental policy encompassing environmental goals. That policy is based on the existing system and is routinely updated.
Recognizing the importance of protecting the environment and of using natural resources rationally, Stroytransgaz has designed and put into practice low-impact technology for its construction work. Technology and measures to prevent negative influence on the environment have proven successful in lowering, and sometimes fully preventing, impact. For instance, instead of underwater trenches at submerged crossings, Stroytransgaz primarily uses horizontal directional drilling, thereby minimizing explosives; we routinely clean hydrotesting water, and we use dust- and noise-collectors during gas pipeline purging.
In zones where permafrost is prevalent, the company uses construction techniques that place low pressure on the subsoil; this avoids disturbing the heat-insulating layer of peat and helps maintain perpetually frozen soil.
Activities to protect the environment are carried out systematically. Monitoring and controlling the environment during production have been thoroughly refined; internal and external environmental audits are undertaken. The company undergoes scheduled and unplanned state investigations. In 2009 these included a scheduled external audit of its management of the environment by Moody International Certification Group. Stroytransgaz successfully passed the audit.
The company has organized corporate and special training for environmentalists and related specialists. In 2007 more than 500 individuals passed targeted industrial instruction for safeguarding the environment.
