A consortium comprising Stroytransgaz (consortium leader) and the Russian-Greek joint enterprise Prometheus Gas S.A. signed a contract today with Greek state company DESFA S.A., operator of the nation’s gas transportation system. The 53.4-million-euro contract provides for construction of the Nea Messambria compressor station along the Kulata-Athens gas pipeline in the area of Saloniki, Greece.

A delegation from Stroytransgaz, with Chairman of the Management Board Vyacheslav Makhonin at its head, has completed a visit to Saudi Arabia. As part of that trip, the delegation met with senior management of state-owned oil and gas company Saudi Aramco, customer for the Sheiba-Abqaiq oil pipeline, which Stroytransgaz is now building. Saudi Aramco managers commended the Russian company for the high quality of its work on the pipeline.

President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, as part of an official visit to Brazil, visited the central offices of the country’s largest state-owned oil and gas company, Petrobras. Joining the president in that visit were Chairman of the Management Board of Stroytransgaz Vyacheslav Makhonin, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrei Denisov, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation Vladimir Tyurdenev.

Stroytransgaz has passed a recertification audit of its environmental management system. The audit examined the conformance of the company’s practices with international standard ISO 14001:2004. After the audit was finalized, Stroytransgaz received a new certificate broadening its range of operations. To construction work in the oil and gas complex and industrial and civil construction, the new certificate adds construction in the electric power industry.

The Permanent Russian-Syrian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation completed its sixth session yesterday. Minister of Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation Igor Schegolev headed the representatives of the Russian side, while Minister of Economy and Trade of the Syrian Arab Republic Amer Hosni Lutfi led the Syrian delegation. Stroytransgaz First Vice-President Leonid Bokhanovsky participated in the intergovernmental commission’s session.

The first inspection to test conformance of Stroytransgaz’s corporate quality management system with the STO Gazprom standard 9001-2006 was held on October 27-30, 2008. The inspection included the company’s headquarters and subsidiary organizations in Moscow, Moscow Oblast, and Krasnodar as well as the Novy Urengoy gas-chemical complex. Construction at the latter facility is currently underway.

Stroytransgaz and SIBUR have concluded a contract for preparatory work to expand gas processing capacity in the Noyabrsk region of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Work under the contract includes building the Vyngapurov gas processing plant, a loading rack in the city of Noyabrsk, products pipeline for natural gas liquids, and reconstructing the Vyngayakhin compressor station.

The Russian-Algerian Business Council held its third session on October 23, 2008. The meeting was part of Arabia-EXPO 2008, which was timed to coincide with this anniversary session of the RABC. Arab-EXPO 2008 is the first Russian-Arabian business fair ever to be held. Session participants discussed Russian-Algerian trade and economic relations and measures that might be taken to enhance cooperation between the countries.

A Stroytransgaz delegation headed by Chairman of the Management Board Vyacheslav Makhonin recently completed a two-week visit to Syria. This was Mr. Makhonin’s first visit abroad since his appointment to the post of chairman. The visit was marked by the signing of a contract to construct an extension of the Arab Gas Pipeline. Director of the Syrian Gas Company Ali Abbas signed the contract on behalf of his company, the customer. First Vice-President Leonid Bokhanovsky and First Vice-President Evgeny Zagorodny were present at the signing ceremony to represent Stroytransgaz.
