JSC “Stroytransgaz” has completed construction of a section of the “Yamal-Europe” main gas pipeline from the “Smolenskaya” compressor station (CS) to the river of Berezina with the total length of 251 km of which 57 km run along the territory of Russia and 184 km along the territory of Byelorussia.

At present at this section of the pipeline (km 335 – km 586) a Committee on acceptance and commissioning of the linear part of the “Yamal-Europe” main gas pipeline is working. This section was constructed of pipes with polyethylene mill coating manufactured by the German firm Mannesmann. For coating of girth weld joints heat shrinkable sleeves were used and this allows one to guarantee a high quality of the whole system of the gas pipeline with the operating pressure of P = 8.3 MPa. Along the whole section of the pipeline specialists of Stroytransgaz and its subcontractor have installed line valves as well as valve assemblies for connection to future compressor stations: “Smolenskaya”, “Orshanskaya” and “Krupskaya”. In addition cathodic protection has been provide for the laid pipeline. At the Russian section construction of three radio-relay stations have been completed with the system of ultrashort wave communication and teleautomatics. In the near future similar systems will be commissioned at the Byelorussia section. With the aim to use this section as a looping temporary bypass lines have been provided at its beginning (CS “Smolenskaya”) and at its end (near the river of Betrezina) for connection with the main gas pipelines under operation – Torzhok-Dolina and Torzhok-Minsk-Ivanevichi. Considering the high requirements on quality of the “Yamal-Europe” gas transportation system the laid section was subjected in accordance with the European standards to tests by a “stress-test” method. This technology allows one to expose maximum construction defects, reveal residual elastic strain and be sure that the strength and tightness of the pipeline is as per design and its maintenance and operation is reliable. The design of the “Yamal-Europe” Project provides for construction of the pipeline with the total length of more than 4 thousand kilometers which runs along the territory of four states: Russia, Byelorussia, Poland, and Germany. JSC “Stroytransgaz” carries out construction works in the territory of Russia and Byelorussia on the basis of general contracts with JSC “Yamalgazinvest” a subsidiary of JSC “Gazprom” and state enterprise “Beltransgaz” In 1999 Stroytransgaz put into operation the first section of the “Yamal-Europe” main gas pipeline from the “Nesvizhskaya” compressor station up to the border with Poland (km 768 – km 977). By July this year the construction organizations of the company have completed welding, laying and backfilling of the whole pipeline section from Smolensk up to the “Nesvizhskaya” compressor station (km 335 – km 768). During the second half of 2002 “Stroytransgaz is planning to increase the rate of work at the following sections of the main gas pipeline: km 586 – km 768, km 106 – km 163 and km 259 – km 335. Full commissioning of the “Yamal-Europe” main gas pipeline will ensure the shortest and more economic way of delivery of natural gas from the fields of Tyumen region to the users in the West Europe and increase as a whole the export potentialities of the gas transportation system of Russia.
