The representatives of OAO Stroytransgaz – Vice-President Alexander Vorobiov, Vice-President Alexander Kapnik and the Head of the Department “Zapadtruboprovodstroy” Mikhail Drynin forming a part of the working group of OAO Gazprom participated in the visiting meetings which were devoted to the analysis of construction and installation works of the “Torzhok - Smolensk” section (km 0 – km 335) and the Smolenskaya compressor station of the “Yamal - Europe” gas pipeline.

The representatives of the investor, customer, operator, contract and subcontracted organizations, design institute and technical supervision formed a part of the working group.

Last year construction of the Russian pipeline section “Torzhok - Smolensk” was practically suspended due to inadequate financing and postponement of the delivery time of the equipment till 2003. At present preparatory works are being carried out at this section of the gas pipeline in order to have the line tested by using a stress method.

As a result of the meetings held during three days certain measures were worked out which will allow one to expedite commissioning the “Torzhok - Smolensk” gas pipeline section and the “Smolenskaya” compressor station.

The “Yamal - Europe” main gas pipeline is a project aimed at increasing exporting possibilities of the Russian gas pipeline network ensuring the shortest and most economical rout for the delivery of natural gas from the fields of Tyumen region to consumers in Western Europe.

This project provides for the development of the Nadym - Purtazovskoye fields of the region and construction of the pipeline more than 4 000 km long running along the territory of Russia, Byelorussia, Poland and Germany.

OAO Stroytransgaz carries out construction works on the Russian and Byelorussian territories based on the general contracts with ZAO Yamalgazinvest, a subsidiary of OAO Gazprom and the “Byeltransgaz” Association.

The length of the gas pipeline section from Torzhok up to the Byelorussia - Poland border makes up 977 km of which 642 km have already been put into operation.
