In the main office of OAO Stroytransgaz the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission for science and technology presented its program “Security and Reliability of Operation of Oil and Gas Pipelines and their Infrastructure in the Territory of the European Union, CIS and Russia”.

The head of the program Doctor Stanley Morris, senior scientific counsel of the Centre, exposed the open report of EU on the security of energy supplies as well as different documents which determine the work order in the area of the hydrocarbon transportation. He pointed out that during next 20 years EU will import 70% of the gas and oil required. However the pipeline structures are subjected to a number of sources of vulnerability. Among them Mr. Morris mentioned natural and technological factors as well as a new potential threat – cyber-terrorism.

Mr. V. Kopylov, Candidate of technical science, head of the Center of the Remote Sensing in the Yougor Research Institute of the Information Technologies reported on practical results of the joint work of the Institute and the Joint Research Centre for monitoring of the pipe line condition in the territory of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area.

Along with the experts of OAO Stroytransgaz took part in the presentation representatives of OAO NK LOOKOIL, AMEC (Great Britain), E.ON Ruhrgas AG (Germany), Rosen Inspection (Germany), research officers of the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, of Institute of Oceanology named after P. Shirshov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, of the Scientific and Technical Centre of operative monitoring of the Earth as well as top managers of the Russian Union of Oil and Gas Constructors.
