OAO Stroytransgaz at the head of the Consortium with the Joint Russian-Greek Venture Prometheus Gas S.A. proceeded to construction of the high pressure gas pipeline Alexandroupolis-Komotini.
The Project is realized in the frames of the Intergovernmental Agreement between Russia and Greece for the supply of natural gas and Supplements thereto.
The Employer of the Project is the Public Gas Corporation of Greece (DEPA) S.A.
The section Alexandroupolis-Komotini with total length of 53.4 km will be the western branch of the already existing gas pipeline from the Greek-Turkish border to Alexandroupolis. It will piece together the Greek and Turkish gas transportation systems, due to which Greece will have a new natural gas supply channel.
As per the terms of the Contract OAO Stroytransgaz answers for implementation of the entire scope of the installation and construction works and Plant supply.
The route of the gas pipeline takes course across both the irrigated lands and difficult mountain rocky ground that is crossed with number of natural and artificial obstacles like river beds, timber lands, cauldrons, hills and rocks, motor and rail way roads.
Apart from the linear part the Project includes installation of new site facilities, construction of three line valve stations and a scraper receiver station.
Completion of the Project is planned for March 2007.
“Over 1 000 km of high pressure gas pipelines has already been constructed in Greece with Russian participation, and a new gas pipeline Alexandroupolis-Komotini is a continuation of a long-standing cooperation between our countries,” – remarks I.Yu.Batalin, General Director of OAO Stroytransgaz Representation in Greece.
