Within the framework of strengthening of Russian - Syrian economic cooperation on March, 21-22, 2007 the official visit to Syria of PJSC Stroytransgaz’s delegation headed by President of the Company V.Ya. Lorentz took place

During the visit a number of meetings and negotiations with Prime minister of Syria Mr. Mohammed Nadzhi Atari and Minister for Oil and Mineral Resources Mr. Safyan Alyavi has been carried out.

In the course of negotiations the opportunities of Russian Company’s presence expansion in Syria were discussed and general agreement on the construction of Northern Gas Processing Plant in Central District with primary daily capacity of 3 million m3 with prospect of its increase has been reached.

At negotiations in the Ministry for Oil and Mineral Resources the projects carried out by the Company in Syria were discussed. Minister for Oil Mr. Safyan Alyavi has declared that the Ministry has excellent economic relations with Russian company being one of the leaders in oil-and-gas sector.

PJSC Stroytransgaz began to work in Syria in April at first phase of the construction of Arabian gas main from Jordanian border up to Homs with extent of 320 km. Total project price makes 140 million US dollars plus one billion Syrian lyres. The construction period is 22 months and the project should be completed in February, 2008. Implementation of the project is advancing ahead of terms. For the part of the year accomplishment has already made about 70 % what means that the project will be executed ahead-of-schedule and, hence, transportation of gas from Egypt for supply of cogeneration plant  Tishrin and providing of additional quantities of gas to Syrian gas network will begin much sooner.

Minister said that the Company also carries out construction project of gas-treatment plant at southern part of Central Syria with daily capacity of 6 million m3 and with prospect of its increase. Price of this project makes 190 million dollars plus billion syrian lyres. Execution of the project began in April of the last year. Contract term of the project is 22 months. Now all spadework is completed, contracts on delivery of  necessary equipment are signed and construction of the plant is actively carried out.

The Company has also presented proposals for participation in reconstruction of Banias oil processing plant aimed at development of production of diesel fuel instead of black oil that will provide an appreciable economic gain.

Mr. Safyan Alyavi, who is heading the Ministry for Oil and Mineral Resources in his statement to newspaper “Syria Times” has emphasized that his administration expresses desire to expand mutual economic relations with the Russian Company.

Victor Lorentz heading the Russian company has stressed, that Stroytransgaz is interested in intensification of relations with Syrian Ministry for Oil and Mineral Resources and in cooperation within the framework of implementation of current and future projects. “In our opinion, he noted, signing of contract on the construction of Northern GPP responses to strategic bonds of friendship between Russia and Syrian Arab Republic and will promote strengthening of economic cooperation in fuel and energy area “.
