Stroytransgaz Initiates New Project in Energy Sector

Tuesday, March 04, 2008

Stroytransgaz has begun construction work for a project to expand Yuzhnaya TEC-22, part of the Nevsky subsidiary of TGK-1 in St. Petersburg.

The contract with the general contractor Technopromexport – responsible for building the new No4 energy block for Yuzhnaya TEC-22 – calls for Stroytransgaz to complete the entire complex of construction and assembly work for the chimney-type cooling tower and to procure and assemble the equipment for the tower.

The chimney-type cooling tower is an element of the circulating water supply system for the combined heat and power station and is designed to cool a large volume of water. The tower will be filled with reinforced concrete sheathing 82 meters high. The irrigated area will cover 3,200 square meters.

In addition to fabricating the circulating water supply system, Stroytransgaz will deliver ancillary equipment and pipes, carry out brickwork and heat insulation for the entire new energy block at Yuzhnaya TEC-22, and build the system for cooling the steam-turbine condensers for the electric power plant.

Background
Yuzhnaya TEC-22 was entered into exploitation in 1978. Today it is one the largest plants in St. Petersburg’s heating supply system. It provides thermal power to industry, residences, and public buildings for the city’s Frunzensky and Nevsky regions.

Expansion plans for TEC-22 stipulate building the new gas-vapor energy block №4 with nominal electric generating capacity of 450 МW and heating capacity of 355 Gkal/hour. Work is scheduled for completion in late 2009, after which electric output at the TEC will rise to 1,250 MW and heating capacity – to 2,562 Gkal/per hour. The project is one of the priorities in the TGK-1 investment program to 2015.
