Tuesday, October 14, 2008
A Stroytransgaz delegation headed by Chairman of the Management Board Vyacheslav Makhonin recently completed a two-week visit to Syria. This was Mr. Makhonin’s first visit abroad since his appointment to the post of chairman. The visit was marked by the signing of a contract to construct an extension of the Arab Gas Pipeline. Director of the Syrian Gas Company Ali Abbas signed the contract on behalf of his company, the customer. First Vice-President Leonid Bokhanovsky and First Vice-President Evgeny Zagorodny were present at the signing ceremony to represent Stroytransgaz.
The gala dinner that followed the signing was held in the Stroytransgaz Syrian branch office. Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdella Dardari, Minister of Foreign Affairs Valid Myallim, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Safyan Aplyavi, and other officials of the republic represented Syria at the dinner.
The Arab Gas Pipeline Project Phase-2 will run 62 kilometers and have a diameter of 36 inches. Its route will run from the Turkish-Syrian border in a southerly direction to Aleppo, the site of the pressure reduction and metering station. The contract will be conducted on ЕРС terms – engineering, procurement, and construction.
In addition to laying the linear part of the gas pipeline, the contract provides for Stroytransgaz to build the metering station (capacity – three million cubic meters of gas per day), construct systems for automatic control, and install SKADA, telecommunications, and monitoring and control instrumentation for detecting gas leakage and extinguishing fire.
The project will be completed in 18 months at a cost of 45.2 million euros.
