Taweelah–Fujairah Reaches 1st Milestone
Thursday, August 27, 2009
Abu Dhabi – Stroytransgaz announced today that it had reached the first of three major completion milestones for its Taweelah to Fujairah Gas Pipeline (TFP) project, currently under construction in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Stroytransgaz worked with its client, Abu Dhabi based Dolphin Energy Limited, to meet the August 15th deadline on time. Commissioning of early gas facilities is now complete at Dolphin Energy’s Gas Receipt Station that services the new power and water desalination plant at Qidfa, Fujairah, on the east cost of the UAE. The plant is run by Dolphin’s customer, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (ADWEC).
Gas supply to the new ADWEC power station is integral to Dolphin’s development plans to use TFP as a vital supply route for much needed natural gas to Fujairah.
In all, 240 kilometers of 48” gas pipeline will be laid by Stroytransgaz over an environmentally approved cross-country route of desert and mountain – one of the longest and largest overland gas pipelines in the UAE. It is designed to carry significant quantities of Dolphin gas from the company’s receiving facilities in Taweelah, located in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, directly to Fujairah.
Although Stroytransgaz experienced some construction delays in the early phases of development, the project is now on track and to be completed by the third quarter of 2010. The next major completion milestone is scheduled for February 2010. This will mark the completion of approximately 127 kilometres of pipeline that extends from Dolphin’s Taweelah Facility and ties in with Dolphin’s existing Al Ain to Fujairah pipeline (AFP). This will then direct quantities of gas to the new power station in Fujairah until final completion of the new TFP pipeline.
“We are placing the utmost importance on this project and our teams in Moscow and Abu Dhabi will continue in their efforts to ensure the successful completion of the project,” said Mr. Ivan Kovtunenko, Head of Stroytransgaz Branch Office in Abu Dhabi.
