Gas distribution system for the city of Kyzylorda

In 2004 Stroytransgaz concluded a contract to extend gas to Kyzylorda, the city-center of an oblast of the same name, one of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s most troubled areas by socio-economic and environmental indicators.

The project was given the name Transferring the Housing Sector of Kyzylorda to Associated Gas. The Kyzylorda Oblast Administration for Energy Infrastructure and Mineral Resources was customer for the project.

Stroytransgaz won the open tender to realize the project in March 2004. According to contract terms, Stroytransgaz as general contractor would develop documentation, prepare the engineering design, build the decentralized heating system, procure equipment, and construct 20 gas distribution points for a system of polyethylene pipe containing more than 300 kilometers of high and low pressure gas pipeline. In addition, Stroytransgaz would complete design engineering for an advanced technology metering system, undertake testing and pre-commissioning work that included releasing the system for exploitation, and train operating personnel.

This project became the first in the history of Kazakhstan to use associated gas as fuel for extending gas to a residential area.

Work was completed in 2005.
