Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant-2

Stroytransgaz began construction-assembly work at the start-up complex of energy blocks No. 1 and No. 2 at Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant-2 in February 2009. The new facility is in the Kashir region of Voronezh Oblast. Energoatom Concern is customer for the project.

Construction of the new nuclear power station is being realized as part of a long-term (2009–2015) program of Rosatom State Corporation. The program was approved in decree No. 705 of the Government of the Russian Federation dated September 20, 2008.

In accordance with the contract with general contractor Atomenergoproekt, Stroytransgaz will complete a complex of work to build storage facilities for nuclear fuel for the new energy blocks.

The company, in a consortium with Energospetsmontazh, will carry out general construction and heat-assembly work at the reactor’s main building for energy block No. 1. Stroytransgaz will perform reinforcement, concreting, special, and finishing work. It will also assemble conduits, steel framework, and basic and auxiliary technological equipment.

Construction of energy block No. 1 is expected to be completed in 2012, energy block No. 2—in 2013. The new energy blocks at Novovoronezh NPP-2 will be equipped with advanced VVER-1000 reactor units for NPP-2006 projects. These units ensure a higher level of safety and economic performance than those in currently active energy blocks with comparable electric output. The reactor units have an exploitation term of 50 to 60 years.

Energy blocks at the Novovoronezh NPP-2 will generate combined electric power of 2300 MW. Once operating, the new station will significantly reduce the region’s electric energy deficit, which resulted when energy blocks at the active Novovoronezh NPP-1 were decommissioned. The construction site for the new energy blocks is in immediate proximity to Novovoronezh NPP-1.
