Zapoliarnoe–Urengoy gas pipeline
This three-line gas main pipeline was built under a contract concluded between Stroytransgaz and Yamburggazdobycha(Gazprom) in October 1998 for construction of infrastructure for the Zapolyarnoe gas-oil-condensate field.
The pipeline, with diameter of 1,420 millimeters, runs 585.8 kilometers. It has capacity to transport 100 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The project was completed in a time-phased plan with the first line delivered in December 2001, the second — in December 2002, and the third — in 2004.
Difficult geological-engineering and climatic conditions made it necessary to design and use unique technology to bring this project to fruition. Due to the special characteristics of the Zapolyarnoe field, nearly all types of pipeline construction were applied at the project.
Technology
-
In order to bring the gas pipeline across the flood plain of the Pur River, we used a new technology whereby preliminarily ballasted pipeline section is laid without lifting, ensuring high-quality work in water-saturated soils.
-
To secure rock-filled slopes at pipeline above-ground sections, as well as at the pipeline’s "entry" and "exit" points, ground containers prepared of non-woven synthetic fabric were used.
-
For swampy and flooded areas of the route, where ballasted laying of pipeline in tandem with water extraction were planned, we used a technology combining laying and ballasting afloat — without assembling tie-in joints.
-
To test the gas pipeline, we employed methods specially designed by company experts for work in subzero temperatures.
