Tunnel crossings

Stroytransgaz uses horizontal directional drilling and tunneling to construct aboveground and water-barrier crossings.

Construction of crossings with horizontal directional drilling facilitates the penetration of pipeline and other communications facilities through natural and man-made obstacles while having minimal effect on natural surroundings and active infrastructure elements. During construction of the Blue Stream gas pipeline, for example, we used horizontal directional drilling to build six kilometers of water-barrier crossings of various widths, the longest of which is 900 meters.

Stroytransgaz was the first company in Russia to apply tunnel-shield technology for construction of main pipelines.

During construction of the Blue Stream gas pipeline, we built the first Europeanstandard tunnel in Russia. By using tunnel-shield technology, we held impact on the environment to a minimum and gave the pipeline reliable protection from erosion and sliding soil. While realizing that project, we built three tunnel crossings beneath mountain ranges; they are 2.1 meters in diameter and have lengths of 2,082 meters, 988 meters, and 196 meters.
